Living & Dining Room Buying Tips
- When planning storage solutions consider how much closed and / or open storage is required
- Is cupboard space more useful than drawer space?
- If a TV is to be housed does it need to be hidden behind hinged or sliding doors or can it be left on display?
- The use of a wall bracket would allow for a flat screen TV to be pulled out and angled
- The use of wall panels would allow for wiring to be hidden
- Are cutlery inserts required for some of the drawers?
- Is storage of CD’s or DVD required? If so are these best on shelves, in cupboards or in drawers?
- When planning media equipment storage, the measurements of the CD/DVD/Sky boxes etc are very important. Provision of the measurements will aid enormously the design process
- If equipment that is to be remotely controlled is required to be stored thought must be given to how a signal can reach the equipment
- Is integrated lighting required? Lighting can be specified for most ranges either in the form of integrated lights or for possibly forward protruding lighting used on wardrobe cornices or shelving systems
- If space is at a premium for opening doors are sliding doors worthy of consideration?
- Extendable dining tables offer more flexibility for setting than fixed sizes
- When buying an extendable table it is generally worth purchasing the largest one that will fit in the space available
- It is becoming increasingly popular to purchase a mixture of fabric colours for a set of chairs eg 3 chairs in white leather and 3 in black. This produces a very contemporary feel
